about

An aleatoric hymn, fanfare, anthem or largo is generated for every country's constitutional day (or flag day, or what ever...) as an ironic commentary on nationalism. Nationalism makes us turn inwards and isolate our countries and close borders instead of reaching out and helping each other and working together to solve problems.

In this project, all hymns and anthems are based on the same set of directions in a graphically noted score. I have composed the music using audio fragments that musicians have recorded according to the score. I then aleatorically reordered the audio fragments with a program I wrote entitled, "Aleatoric Hymn Generator".

The "Hymns" are acoustic chamber pieces, while the "Anthems", "Largos" and "Fanfares" are based on the same material as the Hymns, but heavily processed to become EAM pieces.
